Torres del Paine declared as the eighth wonder of the world and as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

 

The Paine mountainous group is called a massif and was formed about 12 million years ago, it is composed of sedimentary and granitic rocks , its maximum   elevation is 3,050 feet above sea level.

 

It is formed by a great diversity of forms, due to the valleys, mountains, plains and glaciers, which can be found, in addition to having rivers, streams, lakes, lagoons, waterfalls and waterfalls, which originate in the Southern Ice Field. .

 

The fauna existing in the place is made up of 25 species of mammals , among them, the Guanaco, the Puma, the Huemul, the Red Fox and the Chingue.

 

There are 118 species of birds, which can be found la Garza, rhea, Queltehue, owls, woodpeckers, Caiquenes, Blanquillo and Lechuzas.

 

Regarding the existing flora, there are 274 species of plants classified as: Patagonian steppe, pre-Andean scrub, Magellanic forest (the lenga predominates) and Andean desert.

ACCESS TO THE PARK

  • From the city of Punta Arenas, you must go 250 kilometers north on Route 9, which goes to Puerto Natales, continue along this route towards Villa Cerro Castillo, which will take you to Sarmiento (112 kilometers) and Laguna Amarga (129 kilometers).

  • From Puerto Natales you must take route Y-290, which passes through the Cueva del Milodón and reaches the Portería Serrano in a journey of about 80 kilometers .

  • Daily bus departures from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The reservation system of www.parquetorresdelpaine.cl is only for free camps managed by CONAF.

  • In www.verticepatagonia.cl and www.fantasticosur.com you must reserve the rest of the shelters and concessioned campsites.

  • You cannot stay in the camps without prior reservation.

  • In the park it is not possible to find ATMs, it is recommended to have cash, in case you need it.

  • The prevailing wind in the area is very strong, gusts can reach 120 km / h, you must proceed with caution.

  • The weather can be unpredictable, so it is recommended to wear suitable clothing, for cold, rain and snow.
