THE SHACKLETON ROUTE IN PUNTA ARENAS

This route is dedicated to the heroic era of Antarctic exploration, which has Punta Arenas as the protagonist.

We go back to September 3, 1916, when the 22 castaways from the Endurance arrived at port after 22 months of being trapped in the ice, rescued from Elephant Island by the Yelcho under the command of the pilot Luis Pardo Villalón.

There were 24 days of festivities, in which Ernest Shackleton, leader of the Imperial Transantarctic Expedition, and his crew were in different parts of the city, which you can visit on our interactive map.
